Bio

Ric McIver was born on 08/28/58 in Woodstock, Ontario.  On July 26, 1981, Ric became a Calgarian when his plane touched down at Calgary International Airport.

Since that time Ric worked in the food business in roles of constantly increasing responsibility holding positions of national sales manager, and sales and marketing manager of different organizations. Ric’s high energy level enabled him to exercize his entrepreneurial ambitions on top of his regular employment duties in the construction and wholesale  businesses. He struck out on his own in the food distribution and marketing wholesale business in the early 1990’s.

In October 2001, Ric was elected to his first term as City of Calgary Alderman bringing with him a long history of community involvement and service. He was acclaimed to his second term in 2004 and was re-elected with a 91% majority in 2007.

Ric’s background in business as well as his time as a small business owner has brought him an appreciation of the realities of running a successful enterprise. He understands how government regulation and red tape affects its success and, in particular, whether and when growth, investment and hiring can take place.

Ric made the drive for fiscal conservatism, accountability and legislative transparency hallmarks of his time at City Hall. His desire to serve the public at a high level led him to seek the office of Mayor of Calgary in 2010 where he finished a very strong second place garnering over 112,000 votes.

Today through McIver & Associates Inc., Ric is again an entrepreneur providing value to number of great people, companies and government personnel.

Ric is married to Christine McIver, founder and CEO of Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, a charitable organization passionately dedicated to helping young people affected by cancer and their families survive and thrive in body, mind and spirit. Together, Ric and Christine have 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
