Why Ric?

I am seeking the nomination for Calgary Hays for the provincial conservative party. You have known me as an entrepreneur and an Alderman. During my nine years on city council I served my constituents and the entire city. The riding of Hays is made up of Quarry Park, Douglasglen, Douglasdale, McKenzie Towne and McKenzie Lake. All of this is in the centre of my former ward, so I am familiar with the issues here. I always tried to serve with determination and the courage of my convictions. I have been a staunch advocate for lower taxes and smarter controlled spending. These priorities transfer over to provincial politics very well.

As the province faces many challenges and economic stress it is important to have strong representation from an MLA who is familiar with the issues and has a track record of standing up for constituents and getting things done.

With years of experience in government and a strong set of common sense conservative values, I believe I am the best choice to represent Calgary Hays in the legislative assembly of Alberta.

Here are some the things I accomplished while working for you:

1. For eight years I partnered with the province as an AUMA board member

achieving a deal on municipal funding as well as many other legislative initiatives.

2. I had city council recognize Douglasdale and Douglasglen as a single

community. This met the qualifications to receive a public school which was subsequently constructed.

3. I collaborated with provincial officials to coordinate the Deerfoot interchanges built to better serve SE Calgary communities.

4. I worked to facilitate the building of the Glenmore overpass at 18th Street SE to make transportation flow more easily throughout SE Calgary.

5. I helped put new SE recreation centres on the agenda including Seton, Quarry Park and Great Plains.

6. I led the effort to stop the application for the poorly considered Sour Gas proposal near residential development.

7. I championed the twinning of the 22x bridge over the Bow River.

8. I fought for and achieved reductions in tax rates for Calgarians.

9. I was a leader of the team that successfully negotiated what most thought was an impossible agreement with Rockyview on annexation.

10. A change from retail development to office park was achieved behind the current retail zone north of 130 Avenue SE.

11. The city joined forces with the province to get a dog park established in the Transportation Utility Corridor on the south side of the 22x at Auburn Bay at my urging and with my political leadership.

If you agree that I can be a force for positive change in the government of Alberta, please contact me to talk about getting a party membership which is required to vote in the upcoming nomination.

I thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Ric McIver
